The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Rotherhithe in south London.
Police officers were alerted to the incident taking place at an address on Greenland Quay on Friday afternoon (November 29th).
When responders arrived on the scene shortly after 3pm, they found that a woman had suffered stab wounds inside the property.
Other emergency services were brought to the scene, including the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance to take the woman to hospital.
However, despite the best efforts of medical professionals at the hospital, the woman - who was aged in her 60s - was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Metropolitan Police officers have already arrested a 61-year-old man in connection with the woman's death; he currently remains in police custody.
Speaking on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn from the Metropolitan Police says that emergency responders did all they could to keep her alive.
"We received multiple calls from members of the public close to the scene with concerns for the victim yesterday afternoon," she said.
"Officers together with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance responded quickly but sadly, the woman in her 60s died in hospital yesterday evening.
"Our Specialist Crime Command are continuing enquiries today and at this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident with the man and woman known to each other."
The force is now appealing to anyone who may have any information to get in touch as soon as possible.
