Man charged in Sunbury Cross double murder investigation

Detectives heading a double murder investigation have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man.

It follows a crash involving a motorbike at Sunbury Cross in the early hours of Monday.

Alex Rose, 29 from Sunbury-upon-Thames, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of perverting the course of justice and was remanded in custody on Saturday (27 July).

He will next appear at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday 30 July.

Tara Knaggs, who's 24 from Great Ayton in North Yorkshire, was also charged with assisting an offender and has been remanded in custody.

She will next appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday 29 July.

A 24-year-old man from Walton-on-Thames and a 24-year-old man from Feltham were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and have been released on police bail.

The victims have been named as William Birchard, 21, from Colnbrook, and Darren George, 22, from Egham.

Surrey Police say their thoughts remain with the victims' families at this difficult time.
