The Metropolitan police have conditions in place at various protests across the capital today (Saturday 15th March).

There will be protests in Westminster and in Tower Hamlets.

Restrictions on where protestors can gather and march have been set out under the Public Order Act.

A march organised by a number of groups under the Palestine Coalition banner will form up on Piccadilly, in the vicinity of Green Park Station, from midday.

They will set off at 13:00hrs via Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, Cockspur Street and into Whitehall where a rally will take place.

A counter-protest, organised by the group Stop the Hate, will take place in Coventry Street which is just off of Piccadilly Circus.

Another protest, organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, will take place outside the Royal Mint at the north end of Tower Bridge. The protest is in opposition to plans to build a new Chinese Embassy on the site. It is expected to get underway at 15:00hrs.

A similar protest in February saw attendees spilling into the highway with conditions having to be imposed by the senior officer protest. On this occasion, conditions have been imposed in advance requiring those attending to gather in a specified area in Mansell Street. Further details can be found below.

This weekend will also see tens of thousands of football fans visiting London ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final at Wembley. We have provided further information for those fans on our website, including details of dispersal orders and restrictions on alcohol that will be in force.

A key difference this weekend compared to previous years is the closure of Trafalgar Square. It is typically a favourite gathering point for fans, but on Saturday it will be unavailable due to ongoing preparations for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations on Sunday.
