London’s New Year’s Eve firework display to return tonight

More than 100,000 people will gather to watch the first in-person display since the start of the pandemic

The annual New Year's Eve firework display is set to return for the first time since 2019.

For the last two years, the Firework display could only be watched on TV, due to COVID restrictions.

Tonight, more than 100,000 ticket-holders will again be able to gather to watch London welcome in the new year.

This year ticket holders will be able to able to watch the fireworks in person, while a global television audience tunes in to see the celebrations and hear the traditional sounds of Big Ben’s chimes marking the start of the new year.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "What we see on New Years Eve is the entire world looking at London to see what we're doing.

"What we're hoping is to bring Londoners together, to bring that sense of belonging and unity."

Sadiq Khan also says: "The celebrations are one of the biggest nights of the year for our capital’s hospitality industry and an unforgettable moment when the eyes of the world turn to our city. This year will be the best ever!"

The annual fireworks celebration will take place near the iconic lastminute.com London Eye.
