The Princess of Wales is making her first public appearance of the year as she joins her family for the Trooping of the Colour.

Kate has been keeping out of the public eye after having surgery earlier this year, but following public speculation on her health, released a statement in March confirming she had cancer.

Kate had been admitted to hospital with abdominal pains in mid-January, and released a statement that she would be out of the public eye for a number of weeks to allow her to recover from her surgery.

At the time, the Princess, who has not explained which form of cancer she has, released a statement on her social media appealing for calm on her health and well-being before stating she would continue to take time away to focus on her treatment.

She has now been seen riding in a carriage alongside her three children - George, Charlotte and Louis - as the family marked the event in honour of King Charles' birthday.

Kate was seen in a carriage together with her children at the Trooping of the Colour.

Later in the procession, Kate will join the other members of the Royal Family on the balcony of Buckingham to watch the ceremonial fly-past.

In a statement, the 42-year-old royal said: "I'm looking forward to attending the King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet."

She added that she was "learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty", before saying that she is "taking each day as it comes" and giving herself time to rest and not overstretch herself.

The Princess beamed with smiles as she made her first public outing.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace said: "His Majesty is delighted that the princess is able to attend tomorrow's events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day".

King Charles, who is also dealing with his own form of cancer, was also in attendance to observe the celebrations for his birthday.

Last year, the King rode on horseback in procession to observe the troops. However, due to the King's health conditions, he will instead inspect the troops from a carriage.
