Child dies in London flat fire

A child has died following a flat fire in east London

Firefighters were called to the property in Stern Close, Barking at 3.25am

The brigade tell us the 11 year old boy died at the scene, two adults and two other children were taken to hospital before they arrived, while another man was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

The blaze was dealt with by 5.18am and six engines and around 40 firefighters attended from stations including Barking and East Ham.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
