It has been one year since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, resulting in countless casualties and displacement of citizens.

As the world remembers this tragic event, the Ukraine Institute and other organisations are set to mark the occasion with a memorial service and a candlelit march from Holland Park to the Russian Embassy.

The activities will commence today at 4:15 pm at the statue of Saint Volodymyr in Holland Park.

The candlelit march is a peaceful protest to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people and to demand an end to the conflict.

Participants will light candles and carry photos of those affected by the invasion.

The event will be attended by individuals from various backgrounds and communities, including Ukrainian nationals, human rights activists, and concerned people.

The Ukraine Institute's Efforts to Raise Awareness

The Ukraine Institute, a cultural organization promoting Ukrainian culture, language, and literature, has been working tirelessly to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict and its impact on Ukraine.

Other organisers include The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) who are the largest representative body for Ukrainians and those of Ukrainian descent.

We spoke to Petro Rewko, Chairman of the ‘Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain’.

Regarding the march today, Petro said: "It's a very important event and this isn't the only event, we've got events happening right across the UK.

"This is important, its about identity, its about the Ukrainian people.

"The march is there to support Ukraine and for people to remember and realise the war is still going on. we're all fighting for democracy and freedom for Ukraine and the rest of the world."

Other Events to Mark the Anniversary

The candlelit march is just one of several events organized by the Ukraine Institute, AUGB and other organizations to mark the one-year anniversary of the invasion.

Other events include talks, exhibitions, and film screenings highlighting the ongoing conflict and its impact on Ukraine and its people.

Jude Williams, a North London host, and her fellow hosts have devised a plan to gather the Ukrainian refugees under their care, over dinner, as a gesture of solidarity and support.

Jude said: "All my friends who are hosting Ukrainians, we're all coming together on that big anniversary."
