"Over the last few days, the Club has become aware, through social media, that some of our Supporters are planning to gather at the DW Stadium on Sunday ahead of the last game of the season against Swindon Town.

"It is a gesture that the whole Club fully appreciates but unfortunately we cannot encourage it, given the government's current protocols around mass gatherings.

"The Club, players and staff have all appreciated your unwavering and unbelievable support throughout this most challenging of seasons in the Club's history, made even harder without your presence in the stands, but we please ask that you continue to show your support from home.

"The Club has been working closely with Wigan Council and the emergency services to put procedures into place for the safe return of supporters in the coming months. These procedures will have an emphasis on a carefully-managed phased return of fans, which we will share in the coming weeks through our Fans Code of Conduct. This will map out how fans can help in bringing supporters back to the Stadium in a safer and quicker manner, and any deviation from these procedures may prolong the safe return process.

"Therefore, we please ask that you continue to adhere to the protocols set out by the government and we can remain on course to have you safely back with us at the DW at the earliest opportunity.

"The safety of Wigan Athletic staff and families, the officials, the players and staff of our visiting team, along with our local community, remains of vital importance to us and that is why we please ask you again to not attend the game on Sunday.

"Thank you for your continued support of our Club - stay safe - and we’re counting down the days until we can all be back watching live football together again."
