Charities in North Yorkshire say there's a staggering increase in the number of households facing fuel poverty, who are having to choose between heating and eating

This comes as energy prices are set to increase by more than fifty percent in April.

That will add around £600 per year to the average household bill.

The government could fund a £200 discount on household energy bills, in response to an expected hike in the price cap this morning.

Julia Presnell is from Warm and Well, a project managed by Citizens' Advice.

She said:

"In the previous 12 months, we saw 1,100 clients, but we nearly saw the same number in 3 months than we would in 12 months.

"People are coming to us because they are worried and can't afford their energy bills.

"A lot of people are saying they're saying they're staying in bed, because it's warmer during the day.

"A lot of them are saying they're not putting the heating on at all and we are hearing a lot of people saying they're choosing between eating and heating and that's been said for quite a few months now and it is worrying."
