A motorist accused of murder in an engineer who was hit by car outside a party has appeared in court.
Martin O'Donovan was fatally injured around 11.45pm on Friday night in the upmarket suburb of Woolton, in Liverpool.
Paramedics arrived to find people helping the 47-year-old in the road before he was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.
Stephen Bates, 41, of Herondale Road, Mossley Hill, Liverpool, was arrested at the scene and made his first appearance before the city magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
His case was sent to the higher court and he was further remanded in custody.
After the incident Mr O'Donovan's family paid tribute to the 'skilled outdoorsman' who they said 'lived life by his motto "keep smiling".'
'Martin was a loving, caring, fun, and intelligent son, brother and uncle, who would light up any room with his humour and presence,' they said.
'He was highly devoted to his family and friends.
