A woman who was seriously injured in a stabbing at a home in Warrington has died, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called shortly after 4pm on Monday 13th October to reports of a serious assault at a residential address on Manchester Road in Woolston.

A 55-year-old woman was found with stab wounds and taken to Aintree Hospital by air ambulance.

Despite the efforts of medics, she died on Saturday 18th October.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police say the case is now being treated as a murder investigation.

A Home Office post-mortem is due to take place later this week.

A 61-year-old man from the area had already been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

Cheshire Police said they are working with the woman’s family on a tribute and have asked for privacy to be respected.
