Two men have been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Heswall on Boxing Day.

Just after 7.45pm on Thursday 26 December, officers were called to Telegraph Road to a report that a 17-year-old male had been stabbed in the back by two males who then ran off towards the Devon Doorway pub.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering from his injury at home.

Yesterday, Wednesday 8 January, detectives detained two men and they are still in police custody to be questioned.

Detective Inspector Philip Ryan said: “Although arrests have been made, our enquiries continue, and we urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured the incident on dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage which may be vital to the case to please get in touch.”

Detective Inspector Ryan added: “Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.

“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.”
