Two arrested following West Derby assault

A man is in a critical condition in hospital

Two men have been arrested in connection with an assault in West Derby.

At around 12.45pm, December 7th, reports were received of a fight outside the Hare and Hounds on Mill Lane.

A 33-year-old man, who had been suffered serious head injuries was taken to Aintree Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

A 39-year-old man from Old Swan and a 24-year-old man from Croxteth have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

Forensic examinations are being carried out at the scene and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, said: “This is a serious assault that has sadly left a 33-year man in a critical condition in hospital.

“The investigation is in its early stages and we are trying to establish the circumstances of what happened.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene and are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.

“If you were in the area last night and saw what happened or have any information, let us know as a matter of urgency.

“If you live in the area or were driving past at the time, I’d ask you to review your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything that could help our investigation.”

He added: "I would like to take the opportunity to thank the caring members of the public who carried out vital CPR on the injured man at the scene prior to the emergency services attending."
