A 29-year-old man has been given a three-year football banning order after admitting ‘tragedy chanting’ during a Liverpool game at Anfield.

Tyler Coppin, from Colchester, was witnessed by LFC stewards chanting towards Liverpool fans during the LFC v Chelsea match on Sunday 20 October 2024.

He was ejected from the Lower Anfield Road stand and arrested.

He appeared at South Sefton Magistrates court today, Friday 13 December, where he pleaded guilty to an offence under S5 of the Public Order Act.

He was given a three year football banning order and ordered to pay fines and costs of £645.

Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton said: “This type of behaviour has no place in football. We will take action and identify those who commit hate crime in any form, and this includes unacceptable chanting which causes distress to others.

“Merseyside Police will work to identify and bring to justice anyone found responsible for committing a hate crime.

“I hope this sends a clear message and acts as a deterrent to others that we will be put you before the courts to be prosecuted.” First for all the latest news from across the UK every hour on Hits Radio on DAB, at hitsradio.co.uk and on the Rayo app.
