Officers have arrested three men on suspicion of attempted burglary following an incident in Edge Hill yesterday, Sunday 9 February.

At around 9.25am, a report was received of a van seen to reverse onto the driveway of a house near to Smithdown Road, before occupants from the vehicle reportedly caused damage to home CCTV cameras and attempted to gain entry.

Details of the vehicle were circulated to our Matrix Vehicle Enforcement Team (MVET), and it was sighted heading out of the city via Edge Lane. Traffic patrols stopped the vehicle on the M62, near to Burtonwood Services, and three men were arrested on suspicion of Attempted burglary dwelling.

All three were taken to police stations for questioning. They have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.

Matrix Roads Policing Chief Inspector Stuart McIver said: "Thanks to crime prevention measures in place at this house, information was quickly passed to roads policing officers, and the suspects' vehicle was apprehended on the motorway.

"This investigation is very much ongoing, but it serves as a timely reminder for residents to consider investing in doorbell or home CCTV technology, especially those that notify you immediately when someone is at your premises.

"We understand the distress that burglary can cause to victims and have, in Operation Castle, a dedicated burglary unit to investigate offences. If you have any information or have captured or seen anything suspicious at your home, come forward and we will take positive action to identify suspected offenders and put them before the courts."
