A teenager is in a serious condition in hospital after he was stabbed multiple times in St. Helens.

Police were called to Pennine Drive at around 22:15BST on Monday (02 September), where the boy was found injured.

It is believed he was "targeted" by two men, who ran off into nearby Gaskell Park just after the attack.

Detectives are yet to make an arrest and do not know the reason for the attack, but remain in the area carrying out investigations.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: We know that there are likely to have been witnesses to this incident, and I would urge each and every one of those people to make themselves known immediately so we can establish why this happened, and find those responsible.

"At this stage we do not know why the victim was targeted, so people need to start talking. Staying silent when you hold information on this incident should not be an option, so do the right thing and come forward."
