Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in Huyton.

At around 12.20am this morning, emergency services were called to The Stanley Arms on Roby Road to reports of an 18-year-old man entering the premises with a serious injury to his arm, believed to have been sustained at a party nearby.

The teenager has been taken to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition. A 17-year-old girl sustained a minor hand injury.

Officers remain at the scene to carry out CCTV, forensic and house-to-house enquiries as we look to establish the circumstances.

Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne said: "This was an assault with a bladed weapon, which has left the victim in hospital for treatment of a serious and potentially life-changing injury.

"Some of those people present may have seen or heard what happened, and indeed know who was involved. To have seen this assault will undoubtedly have been upsetting, but we need to gather all information possible, which includes witness accounts, CCTV, or any other footage or images from those present, living or passing nearby.

"Officers will be in the area today and it is vital that people come forward as a matter of urgency, and we are determined to find those responsible. Knife crime can have fatal consequences and devastates families and communities.

"Key to reducing such incidents is information from those people affected, whether you know someone is carrying weapons, or intent on using them. Speak to us or anonymously through Crimestoppers and we can all make a difference."
