Taylor Town Trail goes live in Liverpool
The 11 art installations are each inspired by a different Taylor Swift era
The Taylor Town Trail is now on show in Liverpool!
11 art installations are dotted around Liverpool City Centre, each inspired by a different Taylor Swift era.
They are:
- A seven foot high butterfly inspired by Taylor Swift's debut album
- A colourful mural inspired by the 'Fearless' era
- Artwork inspired by the 'Speak Now' era
- Giant red lips forming the backdrop of a Taylor-themed red room, inspired by the 'RED' era
- Hand-crafted seagulls inspired by the 1989 (Taylor's Version) album aesthetic
- A regal throne surrounded by snakes and skulls inspired by the 'Reputation' era
- Hearts, rainbows and pink flamingos inspired by the 'Lover' era
- A moss-covered grand piano inspired by the 'folklore' era
- A witching hour inspired by the 'Midnights' era
- A giant black and white mural made up of hidden nods to the 'Tortured Poets Department' era
The trail has been created ahead of Taylor Swift performing to tens of thousands of people at Anfield next week.
Pip Horrocks, producer for Culture Liverpool, said:
"I'm actually a huge Taylor Swift fan so when we knew she was coming to the city, I knew that we had to do something so that's when we started developing this idea of the Taylor Town Trail.
"I've been working since last summer to think of these ideas for all of the different installations and then working really closely with Make CIC, who've brought all the artists and brought all those visions to life.
"There's so many people who didn't get a ticket to the shows, so we really want to give them an opportunity to get people to come into the city and really feel part of that buzz.
Rachel Smith-Evans, who created the moss-covered piano, said:
"It's taken me three weeks to create this piano and I've enjoyed it. It's been a bit tricky to do and figuring it out, but got there in the end!
"I would have to watch the music videos and I watched the Eras Tour as well, and I pulled it all together from that. The two pianos that I used, one in the video and one on the tour are slightly different so I tried to pull them both together, but I wanted to create a sustainable piano that was alive.
"It's a living installation, it's got real moss on, and when I was working on it there was bumblebees and ladybirds and all kinds of animals flying to enjoy the moss and it was just lovely."
Catherine Rogers, who created the mural with hidden nods to the 'Tortured Poets Department' era, said:
"I handcut all the collages originally on a much smaller scale, so to see it go from this small, intricate work and then transposed onto this huge pieces of aluminium, it's pretty spectacular.
"I don't think it's quite settled in yet! The best thing I've had is that I had an Instagram message from a Swiftie saying that she gave it her seal of approval! So I thought, I can relax now and just enjoy it!"
The trail will be on show until Sunday 16 June.
