National Highways has issued an amber 'severe' travel warning for the north west, with major roads hit by snow.

The M62 is among those affected, with queues near to Rochdale and out towards Huddersfield, while there are also delays on the M56 near to Manchester Airport.

On Merseyside, queues have been reported near to Switch Island on the M58, while traffic is also moving slower than expected through Warrington.

The Snake Pass, Woodhead Pass and Cat and Fiddle Road have all been closed and the A50 was shut following a crash involving "multiple vehicles" in Stoke.

Manchester Airport confirmed flights were operating "as normal" this morning (19 November), and gritters have been out in major towns.

The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning until 11am, warning of possible power cuts and disruption to travel.

National Rail also confirmed trains are running in most parts of the North West, and Merseyrail has sent empty services out to clear lines this morning.
