A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a bus in the centre of Liverpool.

Emergency services rushed to Lime Street at around 23:00GMT on Saturday night, following reports of a collision outside the Empire Theatre.

A 27-year-old man was found seriously injured and remains in hospital.

The driver stopped at the scene and is helping the police investigation, with officers now asking to speak to any witnesses, including passengers on the bus.

Roads Policing Inspector Bernard McHugh said: "We know the city centre was busy last night, and there may have been pedestrians or people getting taxis and in passing traffic who may have witnessed part of the incident.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw it or who may have captured anything on dashcam or other devices.

“Enquiries are ongoing to find out exactly what happened and how this collision occurred. If you have any information, please get in touch.”
