A Merseyside Police officer is due in court charged with causing the death of a woman who was hit by a patrol car in Liverpool.

Rachael Moore was walking home from her job as a carer on Christmas Eve in 2022 when she was struck by the police vehicle, which was responding to an emergency.

PC Scott Thompson, 32, has been charged with causing death by careless driving following an investigation by the police watchdog.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct carried out a review of the case following a referral from Merseyside Police.

In a tribute released at the time, Ms. Moore's family described her as a "caring friend to many", who would be "greatly missed" by all those she knew.
