A man is set to be charged over a gas explosion at a Turtle Bay restaurant in Chester, which injured three people in March 2023.

Emergency services were called to the blast while the restaurant was being fitted at Chester's Northgate development, which shares a building with Chester Market.

More than 18 months on from the explosion, prosecutors have now told Cheshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive they can charge a man.

Mark Blackburn, 39, from Ossett in West Yorkshire, is set to appear at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday 18 October.

He is set to be charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, and breaking several health and safety rules.

The restaurant is set to open in October.
