Man arrested following stabbing in Warrington

Additional officers are on patrol in the area to provide reassurance

Detectives have launched an investigation following the serious assault of a woman in Warrington.

Police were called to reports of an incident at a residential address on Manchester Road in Woolston yesterday afternoon (13 October).

Officers attended the scene and found a 55-year-old woman had been stabbed.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 61-year-old man from Warrington was subsequently arrested on on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the incident; he remains in police custody at this time.

The force says additional officers are also on patrol in the area to provide reassurance.

Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.

Detective Inspector Eli Atkinson, of the Major Investigation Team at Cheshire police, said:

“I understand the concern that this incident is likely to cause, and I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be a domestic incident and there is no risk to the public.

“A 61-year-old local man has already been arrested in relation to the incident, and he is currently assisting with our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what happened, saw anything suspicious or unusual, or has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries, to get in touch.”
