An 11-year-old-girl has taken a knife into a Wirral primary school.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that they received a report at around 2.20pm on Tuesday 25 March, that the girl was in possession of a kitchen knife at Lingham Primary in Moreton.

The force says the knife was located and has been seized, and that no one was injured.

It also says appropriate safeguarding measures have been put in place.

Wirral Local Policing Chief Inspector Dave Morgan said: “We understand the concern that such incidents can cause, especially at one of our junior schools.

“Officers will remain in liaison with the school and our partners to offer reassurance to pupils, parents, carers and staff alike.

“In the meantime, should you have any information about young people carrying weapons, please come forward.”
