Merseyside Police have introduced a Section 60 order in Kirkby following a string of violent attacks in the area.

Officers confirmed that the order - which allows for greater powers for stop and searches - came into force at 9am on Saturday morning (March 15th).

The order will run until 8:59am on Sunday (March 16th), and have been brought in as a means to "prevent further incidents of disorder and criminality".

While in force, the entirety of Kirkby has been included by the order, following a number of violent incidents in the past week.

Speaking on the order, Jemma Shaw from the force said: "The Section 60 Order to allow us to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality, which was due to several incidents of violence reported earlier this week in the Kirkby area.

"Thankfully there were no incidents reported to us last night, and these proactive measures is to provide reassurance to the vast majority of law-abiding people in the community and make sure that everyone can feel safe where they live.

"We will maintain a highly visible police presence today, and this is one of a number of measures we are taking to disrupt those who would assault or attack anyone in the area.

"This is to prevent violence and disorder and keep the public safe, and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.

"I appeal to parents and guardians, and urge them to know your child is, what they are up to and friends they are with for their own safety and welfare."
