A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a “kind, loyal and loving” man who died in a road traffic collision in Maghull on Wednesday 14th May.
Jay Newby-Gallagher, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Suzuki motorbike collided with a blue Renault Zoe outside the Aldi store on Northway at the junction of Dover Road. The incident happened around 8.30am.
In a statement his family described him as someone who “would always light up any room with his smile and sense of humour.”
They said: “Jay was the best husband, son, brother, son-in-law and brother-in-law that any of us could ever have wished for. He was the kindest, most loyal, loving, and funny person you could ever meet. He loved his family and our dog Bodie more than anything.
“It was truly an honour to be your wife, and life will never be the same without you. You've taken a piece of me with you that I will never get back. I've loved every second I got to spend with you, but it will never be enough time. I will love you forever, you will always be my home.
“All your family and friends are so proud of the person you are, and we will all miss you forever.”
A 34-year-old woman from South Tyneside was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. She has since been released on conditional bail as investigations continue.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
“My thoughts and those of my team remain with Jay’s family at this very sad time. My priority is to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision and get answers for his family.
“We are therefore renewing our appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, the events leading up to it or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam to please get in touch, if you haven’t already. I would also like to thank members of the community who assisted at the scene with first aid and for the patience of the public whilst we had a vast area of the road network closed for investigation work.”
