Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious crash in Huyton.

Officers say they received a call at 12.20pm this afternoon (5th March) reporting that a car has been in a crash with a male cyclist, who was riding a blue mountain bike at the junction of Tarbock Road and Manley Road.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and following inquiries an abandoned vehicle, which is believed to have been involved in the incident, was found on Greenfield Drive and a 34-year-old man from Liverpool was subsequently arrested in connection with the collision.

A road closure remains in place at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area while officers carry out the early stages of an investigation.

Inspector Jason Higham from our Roads Policing Unit said: “We are in the very early stages of investigating this incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“This is a serious collision, and we are determined to establish the circumstances of what happened. I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or was passing by at the time and may have inadvertently captured what happened on a dashcam, to contact ourselves as soon as possible.

“Any small detail could be vital in assisting our investigation and could help us to provide answers as to how this collision has occurred.

“Road closures remain in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area while we carry out inquiries. Thank you for your patience.”
