Homes without gas after mains fire in Chester

A large number of homes are without gas in part of Chester after a gas mains fire.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it was called to the Dees Bank area of Great Boughton at around 8.45pm on Friday 21 June.
Crews say a mediaum size mains pipe leaked and ignited, where works are underway for new mains to be installed.
The flames didn't affect the nearby school or homes, but buildings nearby were evacuated as a precaution.
People were allowed back in their homes at around 00:20 on Saturday 22 June after the area was made safe by Cadent Gas engineers.
The company says it's now working to restore supplies.
A Cadent spokesperson said: "On Friday 21st June 2024, Cadent attended an emergency situation in the Dees Bank area of Great Boughton, Chester, where reports had been received that a gas main was on fire.
"As a result of this incident, the gas supply feeding into the main needed to be cut off so that repair work could be carried out.
"Engineers are currently working in the area to make everything safe, but there now follows the process of recommission and repressurise the local network which will take some time.
"We are aware that this is affecting a large number of residents and our teams will be on hand to manage the situation, and we will be working with the local community to support our customers."
