A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years, for the 'senseless and violent' murder of a teenager in Ormskirk.

Matthew Daulby, 19, was found with stab injuries on Railway Road in July 2023, following reports of an ongoing disturbance a short distance away.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Matthew later died in hospital.

Among Matthew's injuries was a lacerated wound to the left side of his forehead - an injury resulted from being struck to the head by Henry Houghton, 19, with a makeshift weapon.

The weapon comprised of a tied up sock containing a rock.

The force of the blow caused damage to Matthew's brain and likely disoriented him around the time he sustained the fatal wound, Lancashire Police said.

The prosecution made the case that although Houghton didn't deliver the fatal blow to Matthew, he assisted in his murder and had a shared intention to cause really serious harm or to kill.

A jury at Preston Crown Court shared this view, and unanimously convicted Houghton of murder following a trial lasting four weeks.
