Five crash hotspots across Liverpool will be the focus of extra police activity to try and prevent future collisions.

Officers are working with local bodies like the council and Merseyside Road Safety Partnership to look at removing any hazards that may contribute to a crash.

The five hotspots are:

  • East Prescot Road
  • Priory Road
  • Moscow Drive
  • Berry Street
  • Durning Road

In 2021, three young parents tragically lost their lives after their car smashed into a roundabout on East Prescot Road at 85mph.

This is the second year of this 'crash hotspot' operation - last year, foliage was cut away on another road to make it easier for motorists and pedestrians to see each other.

Merseyside Police Chief Inspector Steve Robinson said:

"Anyone can become involved in a crash and people are far too often killed or become seriously injured as a result.

"While we accept that in most case there is no intent to cause harm, we can not tolerate the reckless behaviours that we see case by case, these are often referred to as the Fata 4, they are: using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"Today is about removing any hazards in the area that may contribute to a crash, ongoing also, our officer are proactively patrolling with extra vigilance for Fatal 4 offences, intercepting such drivers before they cause harm."
