Five men have been arrested in connection with two house fires on York Street, Garston on Friday 27 December.

A 24-year-old man from Runcorn, a 22-year-old man from Garston, a 20-year-old man from Garston, 19-year-old man from Grassendale, and 18-year-old man from Kensington were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

This comes as an investigation commenced following two house fires in Garston in the early hours of this morning, Friday 27 December.

The force say they received a report at around 2.50am that two houses were on fire on York Street. Merseyside Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the flames.

The occupants of one property received medical treatment at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

The second house had no occupants inside.

A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is underway to establish the cause of both fires.

CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “Thankfully no one was seriously hurt from the incident as both house fires could have spread to neighbouring properties, causing risk to life and extensive damage.

“Our enquiries are ongoing with CCTV and witness enquiries being carried out.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone was in the vicinity of Windsor Street at the time to contact Merseyside Police with any relevant information and I ask that anyone with CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam footage in the area checks their cameras to see if they have anything suspicious.”
