Two men arrested after serious assault in Chester city centre
A man was found unconscious after two linked incidents on the same day
Police in Chester are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man was seriously assaulted in the city centre.
The first incident happened at around 1.10pm on Saturday (13th September), when officers were called to reports of an assault near the Best-One store on the A51, Boughton.
A caller reported that three unknown men, all wearing dark clothing - one of them in a grey hoodie - struck the victim with a bottle of vodka.
When officers arrived, a 40-year-old local man was found with minor injuries. However, he refused to provide officers with an account of the incident.
Later that day, at around 3.10pm, police were called again to reports of another incident outside the Corner House on City Road.
On arrival, the same 40-year-old man was discovered unconscious near the subway. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where his injuries were confirmed as not life-threatening.
As part of ongoing enquiries, two local men, aged 26 and 62, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. Both remain in custody.
Detective Inspector Ross Hamilton, of Western CID, said:
“I understand the concerns these incidents are likely to cause, and I would like to reassure residents that we are committed to doing all we can to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
“From our initial enquiries, we believe that these were targeted incidents and those involved were all known to each other.
“As part of our ongoing investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and believes that they may have witnessed either of the incidents.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage, City Road and the A51 are both busy roads so there are likely to have been several motorists passing through when the incidents occurred.
“I’d urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Chester on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML-2175410.”
