A man has been arrested by police investigating an attack involving an axe at Bootle strand shopping centre.

Police say a 48-year-old man from Bootle has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, following the incident on Thursday 22 January.

He remains in police custody.

A man in his 40s - who received cuts to his head and face - is still in hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Sara Lang said:

"Although we have made an arrest, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward to help our ongoing inquiries.

"This would have been a shocking incident to witness, and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who has since heard any information about those responsible."
