Man arrested after shooting in Kirkby
A man in his 60s was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg
A man has been arrested following a shooting in Kirkby.
Police were called to Simonswood Lane at around 20:55BST on Monday night (30 September), after a man in his 60s was shot in the leg.
He is in a stable condition in hospital.
A short time later, police arrested a 41-year-old man from Kirkby on suspicion of wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Officers are going house-to-house as part of their investigation and are looking for CCTV footage and witnesses.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson leads our Firearms Investigation Team (FIT), and said: "Although our inquiries are at an early stage, we believe that this was a targeted shooting, but we are keeping an open mind as to the motive.
"Thankfully, the victim is stable in hospital but any shooting on our streets has the potential to cause devastation, and we are making extensive inquiries to find those responsible."
Extra officers are going to be in the area in the coming days to provide reassurance, while a dispersal order is also in place until 02:00BST on Wednesday (02 October).
Knowsley Local Policing Superintendent Karl Baldwin said: "“We understand the concern that gun crime causes, and we're determined to remove people and their weapons from circulation to make the community safer.”
