Just before 11:20pm, officers stopped a bronze Peugeot 5008.

The 40-year-old driver and 20-year-old passenger were arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply. Both remain in custody while the investigation continues.

During the operation, some officers were injured and four police vehicles were damaged while tactics were deployed to stop the Peugeot.

Earlier in the evening, the road had been closed due to a four-vehicle collision between the Witham St Hughs and Pennels roundabouts.

A passenger was reported to have sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The road has since been reopened.

Police advise motorists to continue seeking alternative routes when possible and thanked the public for their patience during the incident.

Anyone with information related to the incident or drug offences can contact Staffordshire Police via 101, or report anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
