Suspected hand grenade found in Grimsby

UPDATE - Police have said a suspected hand grenade found in Grimsby is a 'non-viable' device with no credible threat to the public.

Earlier a cordon was put in place and roads including Gilbey Road and Moody Lane were closed after the discovery of a suspected hand grenade.

It's believed the item was found at a nearby yard this morning (Tuesday, 18 March).

Humberside Police said:

"Colleagues from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) were called following reports that a suspected hand grenade had been found at a yard near to Gilbey Road and Moody Lane in Grimsby this morning (Tuesday, 18 March).

"We can confirm it is non-viable device with no credible threat to the public, and the roads have reopened.

"Thank you to everyone for their patience whilst the incident was dealt with."
