A Gainsborough man has been given a suspended jail sentence after work on a roof meant it could collapse.

James Quinn had offered to carry out the work for ÂŁ3,000 on a family loft in 2021, it cost a further ÂŁ8,000 for the roof to return to a safe state.

43 year old Quinn, of Ropery Road, Gainsborough, pleaded guilty at Lincoln Crown Court in June.

He was sentenced to 19 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay ÂŁ400 compensation.

Sally Gray, senior Lincolnshire Trading Standards officer, said: "We often think about rogue traders targeting older or vulnerable people, but this heartbreaking case shows that some unscrupulous individuals will take advantage of anyone, no matter their circumstances, and convince them that they can do work that they can’t.
