A man's being questioned by police after officers received a hoax report about threats to life in Cleethorpes.

Armed officers were called to a shop on Friday night following reports of an altercation where a man had reportedly threatened a person with a weapon.

They swiftly responded and carried out enquiries.

Police have now established it was a hoax and two men who were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm have both been released without charge.

DS Ian Potter said: “Officers have carried out extensive enquiries following reports of threats made at a business on Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes on the evening of Friday 12 July.

“This has included reviewing CCTV, speaking to those in the area and interviewing numerous people in connection with the report. We have now established this was a hoax report.

“Two men who were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence have both been released without charge.

“One man has since been interviewed in connection with the hoax report and our enquiries into this are continuing.”
