A man has been found guilty of murder in Boston.

36 year old Maksim Iliev attacked 35-year-old Adrian Whiting, known as Adi in January of this year.

Iliev, of Union Street in Boston had told Lincoln Crown Court he was acting in self-defence, this was rejected by the jury.

Adi, who worked at the Carpenters Arms went to investigate a disturbance between Iliev and his partner.

Footage showed Iliev overpowering Adi and hitting him twice with a baseball bat, he died from his injuries ten days later.

Iliev’s partner 32 year old Katya Tsoneva, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assisting an offender but was convicted after she had sold jewellery to pay for a flight in an attempt for him to leave the country.

The sentencing for both will take place on 30 August.

Detective Chief Inspector Jennifer Lovatt led the investigation. She said: “This has been such a tragic and senseless case. There was no need for Iliev to approach Adi, take the bat from him, and then strike him twice. The second strike was with such force he was rendered unconscious. There is nothing in those actions which says ‘self defence’, and I am grateful to the jury whose difficult job it was to hear all of the evidence that they have reached the conclusion that he was guilty of murder."
