Lincolnshire RAF Sergeant announced as charity ambassador
Sergeant Rob Taylor says his family has received "life-changing" support from the RAF Benevolent Fund
An RAF Sergeant from Boston has been announced as a new ambassador for the air force's welfare fund, after the charity helped his family through difficult times.
The RAF Benevolent Fund provides practical, financial and emotional assistance to both veterans and active service members and helped over 9,000 people in Lincolnshire in 2024.
Sergeant Rob Taylor will now be at the forefront of spreading awareness of this support, "the fund has helped my family tremendously, " he said.
"I have a a little boy who suffers from cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
"The fund provided specialist equipment, sensory equipment adaptations to the house to make life safe. So given they've us the ability to give him a more rounded experience of life.
"We can get out and do the normal things you'd expect to do as a family."
This year, nine new ambassadors from across the UK are joining the Fund, each bringing personal experiences of how it's supported them.
In 2023, over £24m was given out to support people connected to the air force.
"The fund definitely changed people's lives for the better, "said Sergeant Taylor.
"Some of the other stories from the other ambassadors, they've saved them in some of their darkest times, darkest hours.
"They definitely do have the ability to do that, but that's one end of it.
"They might just provide a phone call, sometimes all they provide Just a cup of coffee."
