Humberside police want people to surrender zombie style knives and machetes
It's part of a nationwide initiative
Humberside Police are urging anyone who owns zombie knives or machetes to surrender them at police stations under a new government project starting today.
From next month, these weapons will be banned, joining other prohibited items like butterfly knives, samurai swords, and push daggers.
It's hoped it will help in the efforts to crack down on knife crime across the region.
You can take these to a police station
We spoke to Superintendent Jenny Bristow who's the head of the specialist operations units at Humberside Police about the initiative.
She told us: "Members of the public that have weapons that fit within this description would need to print off the form that's available via our website."
"Wrap the knife or machete suitably and take it to a station and when requested by a member of staff hand it over."
"If you print out the compensation form and you wrap the knives appropriately - so in a sealed bag or box for instance."
"Ensure that it stays covered at all times then you can take it to the police station."
We know these are specifically designed to cause harm
"In terms of the knives themselves we've not seen a huge issue in the Humberside force area in relation to these particular items."
"But we know these are specifically designed to cause harm - there is no other reason to have these type of weapons in your possession."
"People can print off the compensation form via our website - wrap the items and take them to a police station where we will take possession of them and we will send the form off to the Home Office."
"They will process if any compensation is applicable in that particular case."
