A Grimsby man who forced his way into the home of an elderly woman and stole her handbag containing cash has been jailed for five years.

At Grimsby Crown Court 43-year-old Neil Hunter of Firsby Crescent in Grimsby admitted burglary.

Back in April he managed to get into the house on Littlefield area by distracting her by asking a question.

She was left shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Detective Sergeant Terry Mellors said: “Hunter is a deceitful criminal who targeted a vulnerable member of our community and stole her personal belongings for his own personal gain.

“I am reassured that he is now facing time behind bars for his crime, and I hope this brings some reassurance to the victim that he is unable to target anybody else with his cruel offending.

“I wish to thank the victim for the bravery that she has shown since the burglary, both through the investigative process and the court proceedings.

“Nobody should be made to feel afraid in their own home and we take all reports of this nature incredibly seriously.

“To anyone considering committing offences of a similar nature, please take this result as a warning. If you do, we will catch up with you and we will do everything we can to put you before the courts.”
