Emu 'on-the-run' has been recaptured in Lincolnshire
'Wiggles' is now being looked after by a sanctuary
Wiggles the Emu has been re-captured after being on the run in the Spilsby area.
Earlier this week Lincolnshire Police said attempts to find her over the past two weeks had been hampered by people chasing the bird in 4 x 4's and were urging people to stay away so she could be caught.
The specialist team have thanked the 40 plus strong team of volunteers who helped and say she's now being cared for in a sanctuary.
National Exotics Animal Rescue who co-ordinated the rescue said:
"After a week of building up her trust, getting her used to the temporary pen and having a couple emu experienced volunteers go daily to check on her wellbeing as well as provide her with emu appropriate food and fresh water, we were ready for ‘operation emu’ to commence.
"Today, (Friday 22nd November) a team of 40+ volunteers headed by National Exotics Animal Rescue Services assisted by Wild Things Rescue, Poultry Rescue, Hull Wildlife Alliance, Hull Wildlife Protectors, Nosnibor Wildlife Rescue, Emu Services & Cleethorpes Animal Rescue went out on a mission; with the partnership of these amazing organisations and individuals who volunteered their own time, we were able to quickly and efficiently catch Wiggles".
They are now urging the owner of the Emu to come forward.
The team say after her adventure apart from being a little skinny Wiggles is doing well.
She's being checked over by a vet and will be looked after at the Emu specific sanctuary.
