It's claimed apprenticeships are now a more viable alternative to University for many students across Lincolnshire and Newark

Some are looking for the next step after receiving their A level results yesterday.

Newark College told us they explore all options with their Vocational and technical students.

I always say to students - look at your options - be informed of the choices

Penny Taylor is the Head of the college and says it's about finding the right option for each individual student.

"These days high level apprenticeships are absolutely the way forward."

"If you haven't got to go to University you can work on the job and be pay."

"That's not to say some courses absolutely require you to go to University - but there are options."

"With the way that apprenticeships have developed over the last few years there's not always the necessity to go to University."

Trying to keep young people in Newark is really really vital

"Some of them want to go to University because they don't want to have a debt at the end of it and apprenticeships are a brilliant thing to think about."

I always say to students - look at your options - be informed of the choices and make a decision of what's best for you."

She also spoke of the need to keep more students in the Newark area.

"What we've tried to do is offer courses where people stay in Newark - because we're aware people bus out to different schools."

"Trying to keep young people in Newark is really really vital and we can offer higher education."
