A 20-month-old boy in critical condition in hospital following collision on the A17 near Sleaford

A 20-month-old boy has been left with life threatening injuries following a collision involving three vehicles near Sleaford.

It happened yesterday afternoon on the A17 just before 5pm near the Holdingham roundabout.

The collision involved three vehicles – a white Audi, a silver Kia Ceed, and a black Volkswagen Passat

The boy was air lifted to hospital - where he remains in a critical condition - other people suffered minor injuries.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remains in police custody.

Lincolnshire Police said:

"Initial investigations were carried out while the road remained closed until 2.30am this morning. A 31-year-old man who was the driver of the VW Passat has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remains in police custody where he will be questioned by our investigators.

"Were you travelling along the A17 between Sleaford and Newark between 4.15pm and 4.45pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 March)?

"Did you see a dark coloured VW Passat travelling eastbound on the A17 from the Newark area, heading in the direction of Sleaford?

"Do you have dashcam which might have captured the collision itself of the vehicles involved prior to the collision?

"If so, please get in touch with us with the information you have in the following ways:

"Call our Serious Collison Investigation Unit (SCIU) on 01522 212316, quoting incident 305 of 19 March.

"Email SCIUinvestigators@lincs.police.uk quoting incident 305 of 19 March."
