13 things you didn't know Google could do

We've all found what we're looking for on Google before, whether it's local takeaways or lyrics to your favourite song. However, did you know that Google has hundreds of hidden talents?

Some of these tips aren't exactly are useful, but they are great fun, whereas others are very useful. With everything from converting currency, or doing a barrel roll, we're sure you'll have great fun trying out some of these tools.

1. Currency converter

Google has a quick and accurate tool to help you convert your currency at the current rate. Just type in the amount and currencies you want to convert too and from.

2. Search Google with an image

This is really useful if you have found an image of something you want to make (a meal or a craft project) but you don't know the name of it. You can just copy the image URL into the image search bar and Google will find it for you.

3. Unit converter

Struggling with metric to imperial? Google will work it out. This is really useful for converting many other things too including; speed, temperature, digital storage and time.

4. Translate to a different language

With loads of different languages to choose from, Google Translate is a great tool to connect you with the world.

5. Become an explorer

With Google Earth, you have the freedom to explore our planet, travel back in time and even visit other planets!

6. Google's 3D animals

You can now view some animals in 3D. In order to view the animals in your own home, Google the name of an animal such as alligator, or horse.
When the search results display, it will say 'View in 3D'. Using your phone, tap on that icon and you'll be able to see the animal in your surroundings!

7. Flight status information

This is handy when you are going away (or waiting to collect someone from the airport.) Pop the flight number into Google and it will bring up the expected arrival time and gate information.

8. Find your phone

If you have misplaced your phone and GPS is enabled, you can use Google to find it. There is even the option to ring your phone for 5 minutes to help you locate it.

9. Traffic alerts

By downloading the Google Now app to your smartphone, you can find out the best route to your destination with live traffic updates along the way.

10. Timer

If you only have 5 minutes to spend catching up with the latest blog posts, then Google's timer will act as an alarm.

11. Askew

There's no real need for this, but if you type in 'Askew' to Google it will tilt the search results.

12. Google Gravity

Using the 'I'm feeling lucky' option on Google you can see the effects of Google Gravity. Follow the step-by-step instructions in the video below and your Google search screen will fall to the bottom!

13. Type in ‘Do a barrel roll’

Another bit of fun you can have with Google is 'Do a barrel roll'. It won't make your life any easier… but it is fun. Have a look at how to do that, and a few other tricks.
