A lucky EuroMillions winner has celebrated her 10-year ‘winnerversary’ by continuing to support local people as they become new parents.

Ruth Breen, from Wigan, won £1M on EuroMillions in 2014 and at the time vowed to continue in her role as a midwife. A decade on, and staying true to her word, she has supported thousands of families by continuing to work hard as a Community Midwife, and is just as passionate about helping new parents today as she was then.

Since her life-changing win, Ruth has enjoyed her fortune by ticking off a wish-list of dream holiday destinations, including luxury trips to Dubai, St Lucia and Mauritius, as well as treating herself to a designer wardrobe, including Jimmy Choo shoes and bags!

But, despite enjoying The National Lottery winner lifestyle, the mum-of-one hasn’t lost sight of her true passion and decided to celebrate the anniversary of her life-changing win by joining forces with The Baby Room at Spinners – a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing support to new families in financial hardship.

Set up in 2022, it was created to help new parents experiencing financial difficulties by providing pre-loved baby clothing, plus toiletries and other essentials.

Ruth says that, despite becoming a millionaire a decade ago, she is still very much committed to her role of bringing new babies into the world and helping to enhance the lives of local families.

Ruth said, “I know how lucky I was to win such a huge amount 10 years ago – looking back now, it still feels surreal and I often can’t believe it actually happened to me.

“But giving up my role as a midwife was never an option for me. I still love going into work and meeting new parents, delivering babies and working with families as they navigate those first few weeks.

“I meet lots of different families from various backgrounds and, unfortunately, not every baby gets the same start in life, often through no fault of the parents.

“As a mum myself, I know how daunting it can be in those early days, but to have the added worry of how you are going to provide for this little person you’ve brought into the world would be incredibly upsetting – that’s why I’m so passionate about The Baby Room’s work.”
