Thousands set to hit Blackpool for this years lights switch on
Mel B is flicking the big switch tonight
Thousands of people are set to flock to the seaside for this year's Blackpool Illuminations switch on.
Legendary singer Mel B is flicking on the big switch in front of what is set to be a record crowd.
Mel rose to global fame in the 90s as a member of the Spice Girls in which she was nicknamed Scary Spice. With more than 100 million records sold worldwide, they became the best-selling female group of all time.
She has since gone on to work as a solo singer-songwriter, TV personality and actress, working on numerous shows in the UK, Australia and the United States.
There will also be a two hour concert with the likes of Ella Henderson and former member of The Pussycat Dolls, Kimberly Wyatt, performing.
It is also claimed that the annual event will provide a much needed boost to the hospitality sector in Blackpool, at a time of year when many other seaside resorts are winding down for autumn.
James Cox is from the Boulevard Hotel, based in Blackpool. He said: "The illuminations are really important for the town, and the businesses that benefit from that footfall of the sound.
"They help our weekend occupancy, and bring in families that choose to make a more of stay out of the occasion. This week, in particular, you do notice a different vibe in the town."
The event is being hosted by Leanne and Joel from Hits Radio.
