A major dispute has broken out over the sale of Morecambe Football Club, as Panjab Warriors accuse current owners Bond Group Investments Ltd (BGI) of reneging on a formally agreed deal to transfer ownership.

Just days after official statements confirmed that BGI would complete the sale to Panjab Warriors on Monday 7 July, the group now says it has been blindsided by a sudden move to sell the club to an alternative buyer.

In a strongly worded statement issued this week, Panjab Warriors expressed their dismay at what they describe as a "fundamental breach of trust" by BGI.

They say they had received full approval from the English Football League (EFL), agreed all financial terms, and provided significant interest-free loans to keep the club running over the past 14 months—based on written assurances that the sale would go ahead.

“Such statements were not speculative intentions—they were formal acknowledgements of a concluded negotiation process,” the statement reads. The group emphasised that their financial support, which included payroll and working capital funding, was given in reliance on these formal commitments from BGI.

On 4 July, two public statements were released on Morecambe FC’s official website. One from the Board of Directors confirmed unanimous support for the sale to Panjab Warriors, while a parallel statement from BGI affirmed that final terms had been agreed, pending contractual completion on Monday 7 July.

The unexpected involvement of a new buyer at the final hour, Panjab Warriors argue, raises serious legal and regulatory concerns. The group says it is now seeking legal advice and is prepared to pursue action for misrepresentation and recovery of funds if the issue is not resolved swiftly.

“Had it not been for the specific written undertakings and confirmations from BGI, we would never have entered into such financial commitments,” the statement continues.

Panjab Warriors are now calling on BGI to honour its public commitment, urging the EFL and National League to suspend any alternative sale process until the dispute is addressed. They also called on the Morecambe FC Board to uphold the trust of supporters and act with integrity.

The ownership crisis comes at a critical time for the club, with the new season fast approaching and off-field uncertainty threatening to undermine progress.

Panjab Warriors maintain they remain fully committed to completing the deal as originally agreed and insist the people of Morecambe deserve “transparency, professionalism, and leadership grounded in integrity.”
