A man has been jailed for taking drugs into a prison in Preston hidden inside his shoes.

Craig Simpson, 39, from Fleetwood entered HMP Preston as a visitor on 6 October 2023. It was noticed that he had untied shoes, like the prisoner he was there to see.

Staff searched both pairs of shoes and found four bags of cannabis resin inside the pair initially worn by Simpson.

He was jailed for eight months on 19 February after pleading guilty.

PC Nathan Harrowing, of South Division, said: “I welcome Simpson receiving a custodial sentence for his actions.

“I hope that this shows how seriously we take these crimes, we will not tolerate them in Lancashire.”
